Sun Youth and The Senior Times welcome guest columnist Joseph Munro.
Last month, Sun Youth’s seniors’ club held its annual Mother’s & Father’s Day luncheon, bringing members together to celebrate and pay homage to their commitment as parents and grandparents.
The club is a leisure-oriented program started more than 20 years ago by seniors for seniors. The club is dedicated to creating an environment that encourages people over 55 to interact and stay active, and offers such recreational activities as knitting, sewing and bingo; cultural activities like the Tulip Festival and sugaring off; such fitness sessions as dancing and tai chi, and parties for special occasions. It also offers an opportunity to get back to nature at Sun Youth’s summer camp in the Laurentians.
The club is self-sustaining, with fundraising initiatives held throughout the year—the next is a bazaar June 14, from 10 am to 4 pm at Sun Youth’ headquarters (4251 Saint-Urbain). Proceeds help fund the club throughout the year.
