In anticipation of Remembrance Day at Vista, executive director Ronald Brunet and residents gathered November 7 to pay homage to the veterans among them who fought for freedom.

Mr. Edward Soloway, a recent recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for service during and after the war, was accorded an honorable mention.

Mr. Soloway, having been wounded in action in Italy during WWII, holds several medals, including the Meritorious Service medal with palm leaf, the highest award granted by the Royal Canadian Legion.

Other veterans who were honoured included George Bystdienski, Anne Crevier, Oscar Herscovitch, Harry Langer, Joe Melman, Frederic Phaneuf and William Rowley.

The program began with a bagpiper performing in full regalia and included readings in English and French of the poems In Flanders Fields and Ode of Remembrance.

Mayor Michael Applebaum dropped by to pay his respects and speak to the veterans.
