Unforgettable Friends

Has a four-footed friend ever brought joy into your life? Is one of your best pals a dog or a cat or even a turtle or rabbit, ?someone? you can count on?

One woman who stiffens and wrinkles her nose at a friendly lick from her daughter?s dogs, recalls the only dog she has ever named ? a large stern looking Irish Terrier that attached itself to her family as they were fleeing the Nazis in war-torn Europe.

Over 60 years later, whenever a dog of that breed appears, she never fails to notice and tell the story. Though she would never admit it because she is ?not a dog person,? she misses the dog that disappeared as suddenly as it had come. She still wonders whatever became of the dog that was wise enough never to jump on her, keep his distance, and in spite of his size become forever ?the only dog that didn?t scare me.?

The Senior Times would love to print your pet stories (200 words) with photos. If you have stories you?d like to share, send them to The Senior Times, 4077 Decarie Blvd., Montreal, Qc. H4A 3J8. Photos will be returned.
