The 14th edition of the Montreal International Musical Competition celebrates the art of singing, featuring 24 young singers from nine countries who will share over $80,000 in prizes during the competition taking place May 25-June 5.

For the first time MIMC is presenting a free mini film-fest entitled “Cinevox,” featuring documentaries on singers whose names will resonate with all true opera lovers, including soprano Julia Varady,
baritone Die trich Fischer-Diskau, contralto Kathleen Ferrier, tenor Enrico Caruso and soprano Montserrat Caballé.

Screenings will take place at the Montreal Museum of Fine arts on May 31, starting at 11 am.

Also new this year is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the film The Sound of Music with a public sing-along with the help of The Lyric Theatre Singers, at Bourgie Hall on May 24 at 2pm.
