WWI masterpieces restored
This February, the last four large WWI masterpieces on display in the corridors of the Canadian War Museum were restored.
Since then, the Friends of the Canadian War Museum have provided more than $232,000 to conserve a total of eight works of art from funds raised through their ongoing campaign “Passing the Torch.”
The collection of 13,000 works of Canadian war art, known as the Beaverbrook Collection of War Art, includes 30 large First World War canvases by artists such as Richard Jack, Alfred Munnings, Homer Watson, and Norman Wilkinson.
The museum is at 1 Vimy Place in Ottawa. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm and Thursdays until 9 pm. Admission is free. Info: 1-800-555-5621 or visit warmuseum.ca
