Jaswant Guzder tackles mental illness with art

Jaswant GuzderThough one in five Canadians will experience some form of mental illness in their lifetime, it is still seen by many as taboo.

Jaswant Guzder, the internationally renowned head of child psychiatry at the Jewish General Hospital, visualizes child and family dynamics in figurative and abstract paintings she has created over the years.

Her work is on display at Victoria Hall, 4626 Sherbrooke W., until December 14. It is open daily till 9 pm, Saturday till 5 pm, closed Sunday. Free admission.

Guzder will discuss her art and the issues they depict in a session with Professor Norman Cornett on December 8, at St. James United Church, 463 Ste. Catherine W. $5.
