A Jewish film series continues on Sundays, May 14, 21, and 28, at 2:30 pm at the Segal Centre, 5170 Côte Ste. Catherine, curated by members of the Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre. Evenings are sold out.

On May 14, Fanny’s Journey, in French, with English subtitles, is the award-winning story of 13-year-old Fanny Ben-Ami, who risks her life to rescue her sisters and friends in Italy, after seeking refuge there from their homes in occupied France in 1943, then forced to find their way to safety in Switzerland.

On May 21, Cloudy Sunday, in Greek, with English subtitles, portrays the love of a Jewish woman and a Greek resistance fighter during the German occupation of Greece in 1943. It depicts the life of the once thriving Jewish community of Thessaloniki and how everything changed with the Nuremberg laws. The sound track is composed of
melodies by the famed composer Vassilis Tsifsanis, brother-in-law of the resistance fighter.

On May 28, watch Menashe, a drama in Yiddish with English
subtitles, about a weak widower who has to fight all-powerful rabbis for custody of his son in a Chassidic community in Brooklyn’s Borough Park. It features a non-professional cast, directed by Joshua Weinstein, who will be in the audience to
discuss the film.
