Renowned soprano brings intimate dimension to her art
World-class opera singer Renée Fleming will grace Salle Wilfrid Pelletier January 25 in an intimate program of songs and arias spanning more than a century.
With Harmut Hoell at he piano, the program features works by Richard Strauss, Henri Duparc, Giacomo Puccini and Brad Mehldau, among others.
Mehldau is a highly regarded jazz pianist and writes original music beyond jazz parameters. He will accompany mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter February 23 in an concert within this classical series.

This is the busiest time of year for Share the Warmth who are working on their Christmas box campaign. “We solicit companies, banks, schools, apartment buildings: anybody who will listen to us,” says executive director Judy Stevens. “Hopefully the amount of food that we collect this year will last us through April.”

In a post-financial meltdown society, the rich might not be getting any richer, but the poor, especially if they are elderly and living alone, will definitely get poorer.
A recent report by Campaign 2000 reveals that 250,000 Canadian seniors are living below the poverty line, representing a 25-per-cent increase from 2007 to 2008.
This is the largest increase in any group, with single women representing 80 per cent.
