Give the love of a grandparent
As little seven-week-old Patrick sleeps like an angel, four-month old George is already testing gravity, raising his head and moving his arms as though he is swimming. Though they are the tiniest people in the room, their presence is riveting and fills the atmosphere with blissful serenity.
Babies are irresistible, and with good reason; they need to be loved to survive, and the more people who love them the better. But not all babies are lucky enough to have their grandparents and extended family nearby. For their mothers, even when family is around, the experience of having a new baby can sometimes be overwhelming.
The Tender Loving Afternoon program of the CLSC René-Cassin brings together mothers to talk about the fears and joys that are part of being a new mother. Animated by psycho-educator Joanne Provencher and nurse Nicole Morin, the 15-week program relies on volunteers to help out while the moms learn about nutrition, safety, baby-massage, and community resources.
To get involved in loving a baby, call CLSC Rene-Cassin at 488-9163.
