Seniors fight for EMS services
On February 26, seniors from St. Patrick Square and Residence B’nai Brith presented Cote-St.-Luc mayor Anthony Housefather with a petition seeking to preserve the right of CSL Volunteer Emergency Services to respond to emergency medical calls after December, 2008. Over 400 signatures have been collected in the first week of the campaign. Under a new provincial law, first-responder duties would be turned over to the fire department. Although a one-year extension has been granted, it is but a temporary measure, seniors say. “In effect, it extends a temporary situation while permanent and long term plans are in limbo,” says Georgia  Remond of Saint Patrick Square.
