A Taste of Challah
“And there was continual blessing in her dough.” So begins Tamar Ansh’s A Taste of Challah: A Comprehensive Guide to Challah and Bread Baking.
Almost every culture has its traditional breads, but there is something unique about challah. The skill of braiding and baking this traditional Jewish bread has been passed down over generations, surviving upheavals and migrations.
Noticing there were few cookbooks with detailed instructions for making challah, Ansh says she wrote A Taste of Challah to “demystify” the process, “so that everyone, everywhere, can enjoy baking challah and bread.”
A Taste of Challah is a thorough guide, complete with step-by-step instructions and over 350 color photos. It details different ways of braiding challah (learn to make flower-shaped challah rolls!), and includes recipes for other types of bread (like sweet zucchini bread) and desserts (like filled donuts).
A Taste of Challah is available in hardcover for $34.99 through Feldheim Publishers. Info: 1-800-237-7249 or www.feldheim.com
